This Preston County native, while serving as a corporal with the 1st West Virginia Cavalry, captured the battle flag of the 76th Georgia Infantry (CSA) at Sailors Creek, Virginia, on 6 April 1865.
He was born in 1843 and died in 1919. After the war, most censuses list his first name as Edmund and as a farmer at Ten Mile (Harrison County).
