This Wood County native, while serving as a private with the 12th West Virginia Infantry, captured a Confederate flag during an assault on Fort Gregg at Petersburg, Virginia, on 2 April 1865.
After the war, he worked as a merchant. He was born in 1843 and died in Elizabeth (Wirt County) in 1902.
