This Lewis County native, while serving as a commissary sergeant with the 3rd West Virginia Cavalry, captured the battle flag of the 6th Tennessee Infantry (CSA) at Sailors Creek, Virginia, on 6 April 1865.
He was born in 1836 and died in 1877 in New Milton, (Doddridge County). He is buried in the Greenbrier Seventh Day Baptist Cemetery in Doddridge County.
