Entering the service at Wheeling, this corporal with the 1st West Virginia Cavalry captured a Confederate flag at Appomattox Station, Virginia, on 8 April 1865.

He was born in 1841 in Scenery Hill, Pennsylvania, and died in 1912 in Washington, Pennsylvania. After the war, he was a member of the William F. Templeton Post No. 120, Grand Army of the Republic.
