Entering the service at Point Pleasant (Mason County), this private with the 2nd West Virginia Cavalry captured a Confederate flag at Sailors Creek, Virginia, on 6 April 1865.

He was born in 1845 in Meigs County, Ohio, and died in 1923 at the National Soldiers Home in Hampton, Virginia. He lived most of his postwar life in Gallia County, Ohio.
