This Fayette County native and sergeant with the 4th West Virginia Infantry stormed a Confederate stronghold at Vicksburg, Mississippi, on 22 May 1863.
He was born in Fayetteville in 1842. After the war, served as a judge in Indiana and Georgia. He died in Fitzgerald, Georgia, in 1913.
