This commissary sergeant with the 1st West Virginia Cavalry captured a Confederate flag at Sailors Creek, Virginia, on 6 April 1865. He had earlier served in Company K of the 182nd Ohio Infantry.
He was born in Clymer, New York, in 1835, and died in 1918 in Abilene, Kansas.
