After college, this Braxton County native worked as a teacher and theater agent. In the 1950s, he became interested in UFOs after researching the Flatwoods Monster.
Barker wrote They Knew Too Much About Flying Saucers (1956), and later The Silver Bridge (1970) about the Mothman. He also wrote about the "Men in Black" and published UFO magazines. His work connected him with UFO believers around the world.
After his death, his collection was placed in the Clarksburg-Harrison Public Library. When asked if he believed in UFOs, he said, "I am not sure, but anything that generates that volume of interest is worth collecting."
