This Clarksburg native started writing books for kids after marrying William Adams in 1923. Her first book was The Swords of the Vikings (1928). She also wrote a biography of "Stonewall" Jackson and stories about the Lewis and Clark expedition.
She wrote over 24 books, including history and drama. She cared for many children from her marriages and helped with charity work. Her book The Sun Climbs Slow (1942) is about Spanish children she helped during the Spanish Civil War. Later in life, she kept writing in Jefferson County, where she had spent many happy summers as a child.
