This Morgantown native is a best-selling author known for his action and adventure novels. His first big hit was Flight of the Intruder (1986), about a Navy pilot named Jake Grafton.

Coonts grew up in Buckhannon and graduated from West Virginia University in 1968. He served as a Navy pilot during the Vietnam War before becoming a lawyer. He worked in Colorado before becoming a full-time writer in 1986.

Coonts has written over 20 books, many of which were New York Times bestsellers and translated into more than 20 languages.
