This was the Morgantown home of Alexander Luark Wade, a Monongalia County educator who changed how rural schools taught students in the late 1800s. He helped move one-room schools toward a graded system where students advanced through levels.
His system made education more organized and helped students prepare for higher learning. It was later adopted by many states.
