This Logan County native was a master clawhammer banjo player and one of West Virginia’s best-known traditional musicians. Widowed in 1939, she was later discovered by folklorist Patrick Gainer and became a favorite at folk festivals. She recorded songs for the Library of Congress and inspired many younger musicians, often performing with her grandson Roger Bryant.

Known for her lively spirit and sayings, Aunt Jennie received the state's highest folklife honor, the Vandalia Award, in 1984 for her lifetime of music. In 2023, a historical marker was placed at Chief Logan State Park, near her birthplace, to honor her legacy.
