This Parkersburg native was known for his realistic paintings of birds and animals. After serving in the Air Force and studying art, he left advertising to focus on painting.
In the 1990s, he painted scenes of Colonial Williamsburg and notable golf course holes, including Augusta National’s 16th. His bald eagle painting was even given to the White House. Whitlatch helped start West Virginia chapters of wildlife groups and donated art to raise money for them. He was the state’s wildlife artist-in-residence for 17 years.
