This Massachusetts native's career spans nearly 70 years. She started art classes as a child and studied theater and design before moving to West Virginia in 1956.
In Charleston, she worked full-time but also designed stage sets for local theaters for 10 years. She helped with the 1963 West Virginia Centennial celebration by decorating a theater on the showboat Rhododendron.
Schaul helped start the "Appalachian Corridors" art exhibits, showcasing artists from the Appalachian region. She later directed The Art Store gallery in Charleston and supported many local arts groups.
Her colorful, abstract paintings and other artworks often show everyday scenes in new ways. She works with watercolors, oils, prints, and even home decorations. Her art has been shown in West Virginia and other states, and it is part of several museum collections. She won the top award at the 1985 West Virginia Juried Exhibition.
