West Virginia Northern Community and Technical College is a public two-year college created in 1972. It started by combining branches of West Liberty State College (now University) in Weirton and Wheeling and added a campus in New Martinsville in 1975. The college also offers classes at other nearby sites.
It serves the Northern Panhandle counties of Ohio, Brooke, Hancock, Marshall, plus Wetzel and Tyler counties. The college trains students for jobs with two-year degrees and certificates. It accepts all adults who want to study and also allows some high school students to start college early.
West Virginia Northern works with local schools, colleges, and businesses to create programs that help students move from high school to college jobs. It supports local economic growth, partnering with companies lto provide extra training.
The college offers online classes and connects its campuses with video technology. Its main locations are in Wheeling. The New Martinsville campus has classrooms and an arts center donated by a local lawyer. The Weirton campus is at 150 Park Avenue.
