BridgeValley Community & Technical College was created in 2014 when two nearby community colleges— Bridgemont and Kanawha Valley— merged. Both schools became independent in 2009 but were later combined by the state to save money and avoid competing programs. The merger became official after getting approval from the Higher Learning Commission. The new name, BridgeValley, honors both original schools and their shared mission to serve the region.

BridgeValley has two campuses—Montgomery and South Charleston—and offers many associate degrees, certificates, and job training programs both in person and online.
