The Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) was created in 1965 to help improve life in the Appalachian region, which includes all of West Virginia and parts of 12 other states. Its two main goals are to support economic growth and build highways that connect Appalachia to the rest of the country. In West Virginia, ARC helped build important highway corridors and continues to support jobs and development across the region.
