Berkeley Springs, the seat of Morgan County, is famous for its natural hot mineral springs. The town was founded in 1776 and named Bath (after an English spa). While the official name is still Bath, the post office name is Berkeley Springs.

The springs flow at a constant 69.8 degrees Fahrenheit and were historically known for their healing powers, making the area a popular health resort. George Washington was among the first people to buy property here. Other noted patrons were James Rumsey and Gen. Horatio Gates.

Today, Berkeley Springs is known primarily for tourism. The town hosts the annual Apple Butter Festival and the international Water Tasting contest.
