Ostenaco was a Cherokee leader and skilled warrior. During the French and Indian War, he fought alongside the British and led many successful raids, including against Fort Duquesne. His efforts helped the Cherokee gain more land and influence.

In later years, he remained loyal to the British during the American Revolution but did not fight due to his age.

Ostenaco’s military success helped the Cherokee claim land south of the Ohio River and west of the Kanawha River. These victories gave the Cherokee Nation a stronger position when negotiating treaties.
