Joe Mazzulla helped his native Rhode Island team win three state championships. While playing college basketball at West Virginia University, he had some trouble off the court during his junior year. A call from basketball legend Jerry West helped him turn his life around.

In 2010, Mazzulla helped lead WVU to the Final Four. After college, he started coaching, working at Glenville State and Fairmont State in West Virginia and then in the NBA’s G League.

In 2019, he joined the Boston Celtics as an assistant coach. He became interim head coach in 2022 and, the next year, led his team to a national championship, becoming the youngest coach since 1969 to win an NBA title and one of the fastest ever to reach 100 wins.
