This Marion County native helped pioneer the zone defense and fast break in basketball. Henderson played sports at Glenville State College (now University) before coaching at Davis & Elkins College, where he had great success in both football and basketball.
In 1935, he began coaching at Marshall College (now University). His basketball team won a national title in 1947. Shortly before retiring in 1955, he recruited future Hall of Famer Hal Greer, breaking the color barrier at Marshall. He remains the school’s all-time winningest basketball coach, and the Cam Henderson Center is named in his honor.
