The Lonesome Pine Fiddlers were one of West Virginia’s first bluegrass bands. They began in 1938 and were based at a Bluefield radio station. Bass player Ezra Cline led the group, and fiddler Curly Ray Cline became their most significant musician.

The band helped shape the bluegrass sound and recorded popular songs in the 1950s. Over time, members joined other groups, especially Curly Ray Cline, who played with bluegrass pioneer Ralph Stanley. The Lonesome Pine Fiddlers had a lasting influence on bluegrass music and were inducted into the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame in 2023.
