The MacFarland-Hubbard House at 1310 Kanawha Boulevard was built in 1836 and is a good example of Greek Revival style. It was home to several families over the years and was even hit by a cannonball and used as a hospital during the Battle of Charleston in 1862. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. Since 1999, it has been the headquarters of the West Virginia Humanities Council, and both the house and its carriage house have been restored.
