After the Battle of Blair Mountain, hundreds of miners and leaders were charged with crimes such as murder and treason. Most received light punishments. March leader Bill Blizzard faced serious charges of treason, but the jury acquitted him. The battle didn’t bring big wins for union miners; in fact, UMWA membership declined throughout the 1920s. The Mine Wars did leave, though, a lasting impact on labor relations in West Virginia and still serves as a rallying call for labor leaders over 100 years later.
