Dr. John: They wisened me up to Harry. That's Harry Vann Walls.

Walls: Yeah.

Dr. John: You better learn his shit.

Craig Morrison: When he starts singing, "I've been living here in this Montreal town," I thought, "I never heard about him. Who is he?"

Ahmet Ertegun: When he performed in front of an audience, he would jump all over the place. He was a consummate showman.

Walls: I had strong fingers in them days.

Ruth Brown: The tunes that I'm still singing now, Vann Walls was on all of those.

Jerry Wexler: We would move the desks and set up the mics, not very many of them, and you sure had to get it right.

Walls [singing]: Boogie woogie, boogie woogie country girl.

Brown: Vann Walls is ready to start making records again.

Interviewer: He says he can do 10 songs in two days?

Ertegun: Oh, I'm sure he can. He can do 10 songs in one day.

Walls: We're going to do number six. We're going to do number eight. Then we start it off, and that's it. Solos and goodbye.

Morrison: There's a glorious, contained tension.

Walls: [laughing]

Morrison: It's as if he's at the stove going, "We're going to be this hot."

Brown: Vann "Piano Man" Walls.

Walls: Yeah. Thank you, boys. [laughing]
