John Ellison [speaking]: This is the song that I wrote back in 1967. Most of you know this song by Grand Funk Railroad. his song was first recorded by a group called The Soul Brothers Six. We were on Atlantic Records. I was the lead singer and songwriter for the group. To date, "Some Kind of Wonderful" has been recorded by 65 artists. It's the most recorded song in music history. [applause] Thank you. And also, it’s been on the radio over six million times, which makes it the third most played song in the world. And I remember writing that song. A lot of people ask me how did I write that song, and why did I write it. Some asked me if I wrote it about my wife. No, I did not. I was not married at the time. Took me about 20 minutes to write the song. I was in a car driving from Rochester, New York, to Philadelphia, and I had just left this woman that I'd spent the night with, and I told her she was some kind of wonderful. That's a true story. So that’s how the song came about, and right now I'm going to do it for you. It goes like this.
