About 35 miles southeast of Charleston via US-60 near the community of Gauley Bridge is where the Gauley and New rivers join forces to form the Great Kanawha River. At mile 38 of US-60 (officially known as the Midland Trail Scenic Highway), you can view this 60-foot cataract as it roars into its own little cathedral cut into the rock over time.
