Shinnston Tornado

On June 23, 1944, an F-4 tornado struck Shinnston

Sixty-six people died in Shinnston and the surrounding area after a tornado struck the town at 8:30pm. The twister moved from the farm areas northwest of Shinnston through Pleasant Hill, Shinns Run and Booths Creek. The tornado passed through Marion, Taylor and Barbour counties before dying out in Randolph. Total deaths were 103, with 430 injuries.
