Excerpt: Worse in Morgantown

"A candidate for governor of West Virginia was in a heated campaign and he got a frantic call from one of his supporters in the northern part of the state. 'You better get up here,' the supporter said.
"'I can't,' said the candidate. 'I have to stay here. They're telling lies about me in Charleston.'
"'You think that's bad?' said the supporter. 'It's worse here. They're tellin' the truth about you in Morgantown.'"
