I was very pleased to happen onto this website today when I had a question about Governor Caperton. I was born in Sutton in 1933 and although I didn’t live there consistently, I did remain in West Virginia until 2001. My father worked in a coal mine in Kanawha County but I always considered myself a Sutton native. I loved the little town and fondly remember the high school and the fire escape slide at the elementary school. My grandfather, George Baker owned a general store in Sutton until the depression wiped it out. He was interested in politics and served as county assessor. West Virginia will always be first in my heart. I miss it. Thank you for all the great information.
