A few years ago, I bought an old shoe box of matchbooks. Today I was going through them and found several Charleston businesses, hotels, and so on that used matchbooks as a way to advertise. One is for the Hotel Ruffner. It boasted 200 rooms and banquet facilities. It was the “Commercial Man’s Hotel” with rates from $2.
