Bridgemont Community and Technical College in Montgomery is an independent member of the Community and Technical College System of West Virginia. The institution traces its origins to associate degree programs offered by its parent, WVU Institute of Technology, shortly after the end of World War II. WVU Institute of Technology created a community college division in 1966. The division was named the College of Technology and Applied Science in the late 1980s and offered baccalaureate degrees in technology in addition to associate degrees.

A subsequent reorganization of WVU Institute of Technology resulted in a new name, the Community and Technical College at WVU Tech. In 2000, the legislature authorized community and technical colleges to seek separate accreditation, and the Community and Technical College of WVU Tech was accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools in 2004. On July 1, 2009, the institution became independent of WVU Institute of Technology.

The name was changed to Bridgemont Community and Technical College by legislation signed by the governor on March 31, 2010. As part of the agreement separating Bridgemont and WVU Institute of Technology, Bridgemont received ownership of Davis Hall in Montgomery and maintains its offices, classrooms and laboratories in that building and other structures in the city. In June 2013, Brigemont will merge with Kanawha Valley Community and Technical College in South Charleston.

Fall 2009 headcount enrollment was 921.
