2002 flood

On May 2, severe flooding hit southern West Virginia

McDowell County suffered severe flooding in 2002. On May 2, the Tug Fork at Welch crested at 22.10 feet, more than five feet above flood state. The flooding and related weather killed four people and damaged or destroyed hundreds of homes and businesses.
