Excerpt: Sunrise

Sunrise, my home, is named for my ancestral home in Rockbridge County, Virginia, and is full of interesting things, interesting to West Virginians and Virginians, and to the people of this Valley. I have made it a rule to entertain everybody who comes, because I like people. Many of the religious gatherings, many of the political, social and scientific assemblages in Charleston, for thirty years have been guests in my house, and anybody who comes to Charleston, if he desires, may come to Sunrise.
