Why was the name changed from Lake Lynn to Lake Cheat?

The lake was named Lake Lynn in 1927 after the President of West Penn Power. The locals however felt slighted since the Cheat River was already a part of their history. Since almost all the locals still referred to the lake as Cheat Lake the name Lake Lynn never really stuck. After much public petitioning in 1976 the U.S. Board of Geographic Names finally officially renamed the lake Cheat Lake. Take a look at www.cheatlake.org for more historical facts on Cheat Lake.
