  • 2012 Mountain State Art and Craft Fair

    July 05, 2012 to July 07, 2012 — Ripley, Jackson

    The Mountain State Art & Craft Fair, which is held annually on the Thursday through Saturday during the first weekend in July, began in 1963 as part of West Virginia’s Centennial celebration. Over the years the Mountain State Art & Craft Fair has become one of the leading arts and crafts fairs in the nation. The event has been named among the top five traditional crafts shows in Sunshine Artist magazine and has been featured in the travel guide Best Festivals Mid-Atlantic.

    Last year the fair brought together approximately 15,000 people over the three days of the event to experience the very best in Appalachian artisan products and demonstrations, entertainment, food and family activities. Artisans who exhibit at the fair are selected by a jury of craft experts and the number of out-of-state exhibitors is limited to 25% of the total number of exhibitors. All products represent some form of traditional or contemporary Appalachian arts and crafts.

  • Contemporary American Theater Festival

    July 06, 2012 to July 29, 2012 — Shepherdstown, Jefferson WVHC Event

    The Contemporary American Theater Festival runs July 6 – 29 on the campus of Shepherd University and venues around Shepherdstown. A grant from the Humanities Council supports “Humanities at the Festival” programs that include lectures, stage readings, post-performance discussions, and a playwrights roundtable.     Held on the spacious grounds of the YMCA Paul Cline Memorial Youth Sports Complex in Beckley, West Virginia, the Friends of Coal Auto Fair features hundreds of rods, customs, classics, muscle cars, motorcycles, tuners, & trucks from all years; food vendors; a flea market and arts & crafts area; and carnival rides and games for adults and kids – all highlighted by a Saturday Night concert featuring musical performances by well-known performers and up & coming future stars. The event also helps shine a light on the coal industry and what it does to make our state a better place to work, live and play. All proceeds from the Friends of Coal Auto Fair help support the YMCA of Southern West Virginia, the sports complex and the Y’s youth programs. July 20-22. More information

    The Cabel County Fair has been a family tradition in Cabell County since 1983. Residents of the county may show their prize garden produce, home crafts such as quilts and the prime emphasis of the fair is giving 4-H and FFA members the opportunity to exhibit their projects.
