Cedar Lakes Craft Workshops

Appalachian Music Festival
June 09, 2017 to June 11, 2017
— Tamarack, Raleigh
This year’s Appalachian Music Festival features some of the best musicians and performing artists in West Virginia.
The festival kicks off on Friday night, June 9, 2017, with the premiere of an original musical comedy, FRACK!! by JC Lacek. The play features all new original music by J. Scarborough. Additional Composition (as well as live performance) by members of Kid In The Background, Inc., Long Point String Band, and The Kind Thieves. Tickets are $18 in advance, and $20 at the door. Box office opens at 6:30pm. House opens at 7:15pm. Curtain at 8:00pm in the Tamarack’s Governor Hulett C. Smith Theater. (FRACK!! is intended for mature viewers, as it contains some adult language and content.)
FRACK!! Synopsis: Things are tough all over for Jim Cunningham. A single father who recently lost his job as a truck driver for Piney Fork Coal, Jim struggles to make ends meet while raising his two teenage kids. As Jim begins to believe he has reached the end of his rope, he is visited by a peculiar representative from a gas fracturing company known as Grendel Corp. Their offer to Jim is simple: All of his money problems can go away on one seemingly simple stipulation… only they can decide where on his property to put the gas well.

5 bands will play throughout the day in the courtyard. Performance times, each lasting an hour:

- 3:30pm – Justin Morris and Xander Hitzig
- 5pm – Long Point String Band
On Saturday night, we will host a ticketed concert featuring The Lilly Mountaineers, in The Hulett C. Smith Theater. Tickets are $10 +tax and processing fee online in advance, and $12 +tax and processing fee at the door. Box office opens at 7pm. House opens at 7:15pm. Show at 8:00pm.

9-11am – Dr. Tim Mainland presents lecture about The Banjo: A Historical Icon
The Appalachian County Cloggers will perform throughout the facility. Four 15 minute performances will happen at 11am, 11:30am, 12pm and 12:30pm, throughout the retail floor. The will also have an hour long performance in the courtyard at 1pm.

Rhythm in Blue Concert

Rhythm in Blue, the 15-member orchestra of the US Air Force, will perform a free concert at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 11 in the Ripley High Auditorium.

FestivALL: A City Becomes a Work of Art

Partnering with over 60 arts and community organizations and hundreds of local, regional, national and international artists each year, FestivALL, a 501©(3) nonprofit organization, is considered a premiere arts collaborator of Charleston, West Virginia. FestivALL is city-wide and multi-arts and serves its mission through its 10-day June FestivALL, an October weekend FestivALL Fall and other programming throughout the year. Each year FestivALL includes over 130 events and 360 performances and exhibitions from music, theatre, dance, visual art, humanities and more. Many events are free or low cost and are designed with a little bit of something for everyone.

3rd Annual Veterans Appreciation Day

In an effort to strengthen Boy Scouts’ Duty to Country, the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) is teaming up with The West Virginia National Guard to sponsor the 3rd Annual Veterans Appreciation Day June 17, 2017.
The event is designed in festival style with open program activities, exhibitors, food vendors, and live music.

Hero Pass (includes immediate family)
Includes Summit Action Passes for US Service Member and their immediate family, lunch, access to Visitor Venues, and Live Music.
Summit Action Pass
Adults and youth 11 years and older. Includes all Action Sports, Visitor Venues, and Live Music. Participants should be in good physical condition and free from medical issues that may be aggravated by high impact sports. All canopy tour, zipline and challenge course participants must meet the manufacturers weight guidelines to participate (50lb minimum / 250lb maximum).
Jr. Summit Action Pass
Youth ages 6-10. Includes all Action Sports for which qualified by age, strength and /or maturity, Visitor Venues, and Live Music. ages 6+: skateboarding, BMX, shooting sports, climbing; ages 9+: all activities listed previously plus ziplines, rappelling. Please note that participants must be able to fit the equipment, including safety gear provided. Please note that children must be accompanied by an adult.
Summit Visitor Pass
Includes all Visitor Venues, Demonstrations, and Live Music.

Amos Skillett

Storyteller Jerry Vencill will portray Amos Skillett, a circuit riding preacher of the 1800s. Ripley’s namesake is Harry Ripley, a circuit rider who died tragically when the community was being formed. Nashville Bluegrass Band at Chuck Mathena Center

With two Grammy Award-winning albums and two Entertainer of the Year honors from the International Bluegrass Music Association and four time IBMA Vocal Group of the Year, the Nashville Bluegrass Band is no stranger to acclaim from critics and fans alike. The legendary band takes the stage at the Chuck Mathena Center on Friday, June 23 at 7pm. Tickets are on sale now and are $25.00.
