  • Downtown Charleston ArtWalk

    May 16, 2019 — Charleston, Kanawha

    With exciting and unique offerings around every corner, Downtown Charleston ArtWalk celebrates the arts on the third Thursday each month March through December, except in November and June when the event falls on Black Friday and the week of FestivALL, respectively.   • Contemporary Literature from West Virginia

    May 19, 2019 — Charleston, Kanawha WVHC Event

    The May 19 Little Lecture brings Mount St. Mary’s University Provost Dr. Boyd Creasman to MacFarland-Hubbard House for a presentation titled “Contemporary Literature from West Virginia” that draws from his recent book Writing West Virginia. Creasman was an English faculty member and administrator for 27 years at West Virginia Wesleyan College. His research and teaching of Appalachian literature informed his book that was published in 2016 by University of Tennessee Press and the first critical study of literature from the Mountain State to analyze multiple authors.

    Little Lectures are presented on Sunday afternoons at 2:00 p.m. at our headquarters located at 1310 Kanawha Boulevard, East, Charleston, in the parlor of MacFarland-Hubbard House. Seating is limited (thus “Little” Lectures) and reservations are suggested. Admission is $10 per person and includes refreshments after the lecture.   • Heritage Days

    May 31, 2019 to June 01, 2019 — Spencer, Roane

    Heritage Days celebrates our Appalachian Heritage with a focus on Appalachian Food, Music, and Art as well as other traditions and stories. The history of the City of Spencer and Roane County will be shared as well as traditions of all West Virginians. May 31-June 1 in Spencer.
