  • Russian National Ballet's Cinderella at Chuck Mathena Center

    May 06, 2017 — Princeton, Mercer

    The Chuck Mathena Center and The Russian National Ballet Theatre proudly present CINDERELLA, a full-length ballet in two acts on Saturday, May 6 at 7pm. With music by Sergei Prokofiev and choreography by Rostislav Zakharov, this performance is a special way to celebrate Mother’s Day! This ballet is one of the world’s most popular and melodious ballets, and has inspired a great many choreographers since its inception. The music was composed between 1940 and 1944.and the premiere of Cinderella was presented 1945 at the Bolshoi Theatre. Galina Ulanova danced the first title role. Cinderella is notable for its jubilant music, lush scenery, and for the hilarious double-roles of the stepsisters, more mad than bad in this production.

    The renowned “story ballets” are enjoyed for their lush productions, costumes, music and world-class dancing. Do not miss Cinderella at the Chuck Mathena Center on Saturday, May 6 at 7pm. It will be a wonderful way to celebrate upcoming Mother’s Day! Tickets are $35 for adults and $32 for students. Groups of ten or more will receive a 10% discount off ticket prices.   • 2017 West Virginia Strawberry Festival

    May 13, 2017 to May 21, 2017 — Buckhannon, Upshur

    The West Virginia Strawberry Festival is a unique, traditional celebration to honor the strawberry harvest. Enthusiastic volunteers provide good, family style entertainment that offers exciting educational and cultural events for everyone.

    Children and adults alike will enjoy the fun and thrills of the carnival. Take a stroll through the arts and craft exhibits, quilt show, or the photography show. Enjoy the variety of Main Street and Courthouse entertainment or stop by the band competition, car show, strawberry auction, or your favorite sporting event. You won’t want to miss the huge block parties of entertainment on Main Street on Friday and Saturday nights.

  • Erth's Dinosaur Zoo Live! at Chuck Mathena Center

    Chuck Mathena Center is proud to announce the arrival of Erth’s Dinosaur Zoo Live! in Princeton, WV! Created in Australia, this entertaining and educational theatre attraction will play at CMC on May 16 at 7pm.     Erth’s Dinosaur Zoo Live! is an experiential theatre production which takes audiences on a prehistoric journey into a new dimension where they get to meet a menagerie of insects, mammals and dinosaurs that once roamed the planet millions of years ago. Featuring a large-scale cast of life-sized dinosaur puppets brought to life by sophisticated design, theatrical presentation and puppet mastery, these amazingly lifelike dinosaur recreations connect children to paleontology in a fun and informative setting. Children can watch and learn but also interact with the creatures in this fun and educational performance.

    Erths’ Dinosaur Zoo Live! is both entertaining and educational. The New York Times says, “ Eath’s Dinosaur Zoo Live! delivers solid science as well as an extraordinary spectacle!” Tickets for the show are $17 for children and $20 for adults.   • Downtown Charleston ArtWalk

    With exciting and unique offerings around every corner, Downtown Charleston ArtWalk celebrates the arts on the third Thursday each month March through December, except in November and June when the event falls on Black Friday and the week of FestivALL, respectively.   • Live at Tamarack | Bobby Maynard & Breakdown

    May 20, 2017 — Tamarack, Raleigh

    Bobby Maynard & Breakdown is a three-man Bluegrass band based in Huntington, West Virginia. The versatile group of musicians are all multi-instrumentalists. Bobby Maynard has been the leader and heartbeat of the band since its inception. Bobby plays banjo, fiddle, mandolin, guitar, and bass; sings lead and harmony; and writes original material. Bobby is joined by Wes Jeffers who plays guitar and mandolin and sings baritone. Jason Jeffers plays bass and sings lead and tenor.

    The performance is free and begins at 3pm, May 20, in Governor Hulett C. Smith Theater at Tamarack.

  • FestivALL Preview Weekend

    May 26, 2017 to May 28, 2017 — Charleston, Kanawha

    Partnering with over 60 arts and community organizations and hundreds of local, regional, national and international artists each year, FestivALL, a 501©(3) nonprofit organization, is considered a premiere arts collaborator of Charleston, West Virginia. FestivALL is city-wide and multi-arts and serves its mission through its 10-day June FestivALL, an October weekend FestivALL Fall and other programming throughout the year. Each year FestivALL includes over 130 events and 360 performances and exhibitions from music, theatre, dance, visual art, humanities and more. Many events are free or low cost and are designed with a little bit of something for everyone.
