Events for December 2018

  • Gregory Porter with Orchestra: Marshall Artists Series

    December 04, 2018 — Huntington, Cabell

Soulful jazz singer-songwriter Gregory Porter kicks off the holiday season by paying tribute to one of the all-time greats. Porter’s “thrilling presence” (New York Times) has won over audiences and Grammy voters, and now he’ll fill the theater with selections from Nat King Cole & Me, his most recent album. He’ll also treat the audience to some of his holiday favorites.

For the two-time Grammy-winning vocalist, the influence of Nat King Cole on his life and music runs deep, reaching back to his earliest childhood memories. After his role in the Tony-nominated musical “It Ain’t Nothin’ But the Blues” — but before rising to international acclaim in his solo career thanks to his majestic baritone and invigorating concerts — Porter expressed his deep appreciation for Cole in a semi-autobiographical musical, Nat King Cole & Me. That musical underpins Porter’s third Blue Note Record’s release, Nat King Cole & Me, the follow-up to his Grammy Award-winning albums Liquid Spirit and Take Me to the Alley.

This year the West Virginia Department of Agriculture in partnership with the West Virginia Farmers Market Association will give a presentation involving vendor rules and regulation changes that have occurred as a result of the recent passing of SB 375 during the 2018 legislative session.

This event is free and open to the public. We encourage all farmers market vendors to save this date. We especially encourage anyone with specific questions about the new legislation that has not yet been directly addressed.

For additional information about the changes, please contact the West Virginia Department of Agriculture Business Development Division at 304-558-2210.

Citing the “carnival” atmosphere among the crowd of 5,000, public executions would soon be banned by the WV Legislature. The historic Alpine Theatre, 210 W.
