    Way Back Weekend/Cast-Iron Cook-Off: Set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, the Cast Iron Cook Off is part of the Way Back Weekend series at Heritage Farm Museum & Village, 3300 Harvey Road, Huntington.   • Wirt County Pioneer Day

    October 01, 2016 to October 02, 2016 — Elizabeth, Wirt

    The 14th annual Wirt County Pioneer Day will be Saturday, October 1 at the Wirt County Courthouse Square in downtown Elizabeth. The Elizabeth Beauchamp Chapter Daughters of American Pioneers organizes the annual heritage event. Saturday’s activities will include vendor tents and activities, including basket making, blacksmithing and apple butter stirring, along with a variety of food and crafts for sale. On Sunday, a Civil War battle re-enactment will take place at 2 p.m. at Viller’s Field on West Virginia 5 at Elizabeth.   • 2016 West Virginia Makes Festival

    October 07, 2016 — Huntington, Cabell

    The Robert C. Byrd Institute for Advanced Flexible Manufacturing (RCBI) will host the 2016 West Virginia Makes Festival – a celebration of ingenuity and creativity to inspire artists, inventors, makers and students of all ages – on Oct. 7, 2016 in Huntington.

    The annual festival, which coincides with national Manufacturing Day, is open to everyone and will feature 3D Printing, special exhibits and attractions, some of your favorite local food vendors and technology.

    A Design Challenge at the festival will provide makers the opportunity to demonstrate their new ideas and skills, and reward their creative inspirations. Inventors, entrepreneurs, artists and students of all ages are encouraged to enter the Design Challenge at the 2016 West Virginia Makes Festival. Registration is required, so it’s free to enter.

    RCBI is again presenting the festival in collaboration with a statewide group of partners.
