SharePrint Archives and History Online Resources

On August 9, 2012, Joe Geiger will present “Archives and History Online Resources” at the Thursday evening lecture in the Archives and History Library in the Culture Center in Charleston. The program will begin at 6:00 p.m. and is free and open to the public.

Geiger will provide an overview of what is on the West Virginia Archives and History Web site that would be useful to researchers, both genealogists and historians.

Geiger has worked for West Virginia Archives and History since 1998, serving as historian, webmaster, assistant director, and acting director before being named director in 2009. Geiger holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in history from Marshall University. For the past 15 years, he has taught West Virginia History as an adjunct professor at Marshall University. Geiger is the author of several scholarly articles and two books: Civil War in Cabell County, West Virginia, 1861-1865 (1991) and Holding the Line: The Battle of Allegheny Mountain and Confederate Defense of the Staunton-Parkersburg Turnpike 1861-62 (forthcoming, 2012).

For planning purposes, participants are encouraged to register for the program, but advance registration is not required. Susan Scouras, previously scheduled as the August speaker, has been rescheduled to present “West Virginia Cookbooks” on Thursday, September 13, 2012.
